Chien
Name: Chien (male)Date of Birth: April 1, 2000
Hometown: Haiphong
Medical condition: Autism
How long at Hope centre: 2.5 years
Chien is an example of the success of early intervention. He entered the clinic when he was 3.5 years old. When he first arrived, he had no ability to communicate or to concentrate. He was in constant motion, never sat still. He didn't know how to say "mom" or "dad" and didn't recognize them. He couldn't feed himself, couldn't go potty and had no awareness of his surroundings.
After 2.5 years at the Hope Center, he has recently left the centre for a mainstream school. He can speak, is independent, and is adjusting well with other students in his class. Since entering the Hope Center, his parents moved to Hanoi and have decided to continue to live in the city so that he can continue to study at his current kindergarten and later public school.
