Emerging Domain Engagement
Poverty Alleviation :Glocal Ventures Inc (GVI) joins the fight against poverty in Vietnam and Mexico by teaming with local microfinance institutions and the international donor community. The initial strategy in this fight against poverty will be the use of microcredit.
Microcredit is the extension of small loans to struggling entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans. It’s a proven and effective solution in the ongoing battle against poverty, enabling those without access to lending institutions to borrow at bank rates, and start or grow small businesses.
Vietnam and Mexico are no strangers to poverty alleviation through the use of microcredit. GVI will partner with a long-standing, local microfinance institution whose purpose is to underwrite, disperse and collect loans in benefit of these poverty-stricken business owners. Our team’s role is simply to locate and build relationships with families that will qualify and benefit from these small business loans. Once indentified, GVI will help each borrower with the application process and document this process for the worldwide donor community to fund through the internet.

Social Work:
2 social workers from Northwood(TX)launched GVI's first-ever engagement in the field of Social Work in March 2008. They taught a weekend seminar at the Hanoi National University of Education entitled "Counseling and Social Service Interventions for Children and Families." 120 participants attended the seminar, some even making the journey from Vietnam's southern-most tip, a distance of over 1000 km. The event was very well received and it laid a strong foundation for future cooperation in this domain.
